Anna Webber Rectangles, 8pm
Anna Webber- tenor sax,
Adam Hopkins - bass,
Reedist Anna Webber, a Brooklynite by way of British Columbia, is one of the most exciting new arrivals on the New York avant-garde jazz scene in the past couple years. ...her detail-rich writing recalls the work of elders as disparate as Tim Berne and Henry Threadgill, and her busy motion evokes a fizzy sort of exhilaration.
-Peter Margasak, Chicago Reader
Anna Webber's Triangles, a spin-off of her band Rectangles, will be playing a set of new-ish music that deals with topics such as deer fights, puffins, and cauliflower.
JP Schlegelmilch, 9pm
JP Schlegelmilch - Piano, Compositions
Dana Lyn - Violin
Jake Charkey - Cello
Satoshi Takeishi - Percussion
JP Schlegelmilch presents new music written for the classical piano trio instrumentation (piano, violin and cello) plus percussion. Inspiration was taken from American modernist composers Charles Ives, Henry Cowell, and Lou Harrison, and their multi-faceted musical worlds. The music has a chamber music atmosphere but leaves room for the ensemble of improvisors to make their own discoveries.
